This post was actually prepared in 2016 !!! but I forgot to post it LOL !!!
Sooo this post is about our experience when Sai had HFMD not once but twice in the span of 5 months :(
Let me start with the first experience,
This was on her birthday ( 18th June 2016 ), She was very grumpy and crying the whole day, We all thought it was due to lack of sleep. Her body temperature starting rising. I gave her fever med and she was okay but very quiet and grumpy most of the time.
Next day we realize spots on her body especially around her bum, 1 or 2 huge ones that my mom said looks like chicken pox, So we decided to take her to the peads just to check and confirm if it was chicken pox.
The moment the doctor saw she confirmed it was HFMD, They immediately had to admit her, everything happen just so fast, The doc told me to wait outside and took her in to give her an IV....OMG I almost burst out crying outside the doctor's room. I had no idea about HFMD !!!! I was just so blur !!! Apparently HFMD symptoms only shows up after a week of getting it. Which means She had already got it few days ago but what was funny is Sai hardly went out door or came in contact with any child to get it.
She was admitted for about 5 days, the rash became worse in the next 2 days and a few huge ones with fluid in it. She had it severe around her bum. Words can't describe how I felt then, I use to cry along with her when I had to wash her bum because it was so sore 😓. She was isolated and not allowed to leave the room.
Long story short, after 5 stressful day and sleepless nights she was discharged but was still kept under isolation for another 7 days.
Please note, If a child gets HFMD once they become prone to it and whenever HFMD is on the rise.
So as for Sai the rashes were subsiding, as for the huge ones it burst and was drying up, and bad enough...her palm, feet and her bum inner skin started peeling off 💀💀 !!!! Apparently these are sign of healing.
Not recovered fully yet !!! 2 months later, her finger nails & toe nails start breaking and dropping. * Sign of healing as well* but this only happens in severe cases of it. Yes Sai's case was consider severe.
Usually the rashes would only appear around the palm, feet and around the mouth but she has it alot on her bum area.
FINALLY SHE WAS FULLY RECOVERED AND ALL BACK 2 NORMAL.
One fine day after 5 months , I went for a makeup appointment early morning and when I got back husband told me that she's having rash around her bum, I saw and it was very very mild, I thought it was nappy rash...later that day her temperature started increasing and she was huffing and puffing *which she hardly does*, and as I was about to change her pampers I notice the rash bulging slightly more than in the morning, and I had a feeling it is HFMD again, I checked her palm n feet n notice it was red'ish.
The first time Sai had this, someone introduced me to a lotion from Amway which helped the rash to dry fast and itch less.
I immediately applied that lotion on her n rushed her to a clinic as it was a Sat and her peads was not around, the doctor confirmed she was having it again, but it was very mild and she doesn't require to be in hosp just isolate her,
Next day she stopped drinking milk completely she refused using her pacifier as well which was basically inseparable from her, she refused to brush her teeth or even talk, When we checked her mouth it was FULLLLL OF ULCER, on both sides of her tongue, the walls of her mouth, inner part of her lips, throat just every where.
We immediately rushed her to the emergency, and the checked her and everything and decided to admit her, as she refused to have anything to eat or drink.
So it was the whole process again...but this time was even worse as she was a little more grown and aware, her dad accompanied her into the doc's room to get the IV fixed as I waited outside. My hand was shivering badly and my eyes were filled with tears as I waited outside hearing her scream AMMMMAAAAA AMMMAAAAAA, a nurse passed me and went into the room and as the door flipped, I saw Sai looking at me trying to reach out for me.
Seeing your little one sick is a very painful thing, seeing them in pain and you being helpless is even more painful.
Long story short she was admitted for almost 4 days this time, Isolated again. I was a little more aware of the situation and knew how to handle it. I continued applied Allano everyday... She hardly had rashes on her body. Besides the ulcer in her mouth.
She started drinking thru a straw and eating cold stuffs after 1 day, she totally forgot about her pacifier and milk bottle. She recover fast this time. Very mild skin peeling and NO CRACK NAILS.
